Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), along with many other autoimmune diseases, can have many negative effects on an individual. Aside from the physical pain, stiffness and swelling of joints, individuals who are diagnosed with RA may also have negative social, emotional and financial effects from this chronic illness.
Support groups can provide education and social support to assist with adjustment to this chronic illness. Participants are able to freely discuss their feelings in a confidential and supportive environment. Many participants have stated positive social and emotional benefits from attending this support group.
